The Mainland Big Band is a very experienced dance band with a long history of music-making in Canterbury. With more than 40 years’ experience, the Band is well-equipped to help you plan a programme to suit your particular needs. The dedicated team of up to 19 musicians rehearses weekly under the direction of a talented Musical Director, expanding its already comprehensive repertoire, and maintaining its performance standard at a high level. The Band has performed regularly in many of the Working Men’s Clubs of Christchurch as well as for private weddings, receptions, and large formal, corporate dinner-dances for many years.

STYLE

The Band’s presence will add impact to your function. The band is well-turned-out with its members wearing distinctive wine-coloured dinner jackets, white shirts and bow ties, and with red and gold banners decorating the music stands.

A high standard of conduct is expected of all the Band members. From your first contact, to the clearing away at the end of the performance, you can expect a truly professional and businesslike experience.

The Band can also provide their own sound equipment, and staging if necessary.

REPERTOIRE

Whether you require background music to accompany a meal or cocktails, or the need to get those feet moving with dance music appropriate for the ages and tastes of your guests (or both), we can oblige. If we don’t already have a particular piece in our repertoire that you would like, we may be able to prepare it especially for you, providing we have sufficient notice.
